Welcome to the first real installment of flatpicker! These posts will be centered around a song or "phrase" I have been working on. I hope to include different types of media in each post because that is how I personally like to learn - with more than just words. Posts will have a main recording followed by written notes, pictures of hand written tab (until I figure out a better way), smaller recordings that focus on sub sections etc. to help me/others replicate what I did and maybe even understand why I did it...
I have been playing guitar since 1995 and for the past few years I have been focused primarily on bluegrass and folk music. I played mostly rock and blues until I stumbled across "Mignonette" by the Avett Brothers. I was struck by the energy of the music, especially the quick bluegrass style guitar parts. When someone mentioned bluegrass I thought of moonshine drinking hillbillies - not THIS. This was music that made you want to STOMP, holler and get excited.
